Swedish death metal heavyweights, Entombed A.D., are back with their two singles off of upcoming album Bowels Of The Earth and they are certified Swedish death metal bangers. Fast, ferocious and vicious it is sure to void you of all your senses for a couple of hours after listening to it. Rising from the ashes of the Entombed break up of 2014 led by LG Petrov, Entombed A.D. have carved out their own notoriety for hard hitting Swedish death metal for the last 6 years and Elimination and Torment Remains are no different! Its been a few months since I ventured into the world of Swedish death metal and these are awesome songs to bring me back round to it!
Packed full of chunky, fast and uncompromising riffs musically Entombed A.D. have really brought the thunder on both songs. With Elimination I think being the stronger of the two singles, even though Torment Remains is a ruthlessly paced beast of a song. Musically, Elimination has a bit more technicality and structure to it and embodies some of Entombed A.D.'s previous releases, basically it sounds like traditional Entombed A.D. with its own distinct grove. At the end of the day though its all out death metal, and I get vibes that are similar to bands like Obituary, Demonical and Grave from it which can only be a good thing. Torment Remains on the other hand is brutal and fast, that kind of music you would have no hesitation in getting up and hitting the guy next to you too. The release of this fast flowing anger is awesome. My favourite part of this song is the breakdown riffs that appear halfway through the song as it is laden with this groove that definitely gets your head and body moving. Both songs have slower sections in them amidst all the chaos which offers a nice contrast, like I've just mentioned both songs get you moving to the edge of your seat.
The production is what really gets me going with these two singles. The Swedish death metal tone is world renowned for its distinct mid-range distortion that makes the chugs sound thick and crunchy. There is also a real DIY feel to the mix, its grim, dirty and raw. It does feel like they would both have fit really well on 2016's Dead Dawn mix wise. The guitar tones are what makes this become instantly recognisable as Swedish Death Metal, the icon guitar distortion from Boss, the Metal Zone (MT-2) comes instantly to mind amongst a few others as I do remember hearing a few years back that Nico Elgstrand did use them one Dead Dawn. This is what I love most about the songs this super precise distortion on the guitars that gives the songs so much chunk and heaviness. The kit sounds tight as hell and the cymbals cut through the mid range distortion of the guitars really well. Overall, they're both really well mixed in the Swedish Death Metal style.
It's awesome to see Entombed A.D. up and running again, I really enjoyed Dead Dawn, my gut instinct tells me that Bowels Of The Earth with be a barnstormer! Bowels Of The Earth drops at the end of this month so check out Elimination / Torment Remains now.
